REGULATIONS 2010
- Objectives
- MoliseCinema is a film festival whose main aim is to claim “the right to enjoy Cinema” in the small towns, through the promotion of the latest and most innovative works of the italian and international cinema. A special attention is given to young italian, european and international film-makers, to innovative projects and new ways of expression, and to films dealing with the themes of cross-cultural interactions between peoples, of cultural and social identity in a community and life in small villages.
- Schedule
- The 8° edition of MoliseCinema will take place from 3th to 8th of August 2010. From 10th to 22rd of August 2010 will take place the touring section “MoliseCinema Tour”.
- Sections
- The festival is made up of seven sections:
- a) Villages in short. Carlo Montuori Prize. International short film competition.
- b) Routes. National short film competition (italian productions).
- c) Frontiers: International documentary competition.
- d) Villages full-length: Italian and international feature films. By invitation only.
- e) Filming Molise. Films, shorts and documentaries on the region of Molise and its territory.
- f) Special events: concerts, readings, shows, retrospectives.
- g) MoliseCinema Tour. From 11th to 23rd of August a selection of films presented at the festival will be screened in other towns of Molise.
- Entries to the sections Villages in short and Routes with a connection to the themes of “village”, “province” or to the overall theme of the relationship between the city and the rural areas will be given special consideration in the selection process. Entries to the section Frontiers with a connection to the theme of “border”, both in its symbolic and material sense, and to the relationship between differerent peoples and cultures will be given a special consideration in the selection process.
- Prizes and juries
- Official prizes for the competitive sections will be awarded, along with the reasons for the nomination, after the evaluation of the preselected candidates by a Jury of experts appointed by the Board of directors of MoliseCinema. The money prize for the best short film “Villages in short” is named after Carlo Montuori, famous cinematographer of the italian neo-realist cinema. Money prizes will be awarded also for the sections “Routes” and “Frontiers”. In exceptional cases additional prizes could be awarded at the discretion of the Jury. A prize will be awarded by the public to the best film in each competitive section. The winners of the competitions will also receive the “K” prize of Molisecinema, a sculpture by the master Baldo Diodato.
- Selection
- The Board of directors of MoliseCinema is in charge of the preselection of the short films and documentaries submitted for the sections “Villages in short”, “Routes” and "Frontiers”. The decision of the Board of directors is unquestionable and final. The board of directors of MoliseCinema will also select the works and the film-makers accepted as participant in the other sections of the festival.
- Eligibility requirements
- a) Are accepted as a participant to the competitive sections “Villages in short” and “Routes” works shot both in 16mm/35mm film or digital format. The running time may not exceed 25 minutes. Films must have been completed after the 1st of January 2009. The board of directors of MoliseCinema reserves the right to accept entries to the competitive sections that do not comply with the above mentioned criterias as for theme, duration or year of production. All genres are admitted.
- b) During the selection process of the short films submitted for the sections “Villages in short” and “Routes” a special consideration will be given to the works inspired to, or connected to the following themes: life in small villages; comparison or relationship between the town and the rural areas, sustainable development, identity of ethnic groups or of a community, generational comparision, emigration and immigration.
- c) Are accepted as a participant to the competitive section “Frontiers”, which is dedicated to documentaries, documentary films shot both in 16mm/35mm film or digital format . The running time may not exceed 90 minutes. Films must have been completed after the 1st of January 2009. The board of directors of MoliseCinema reserves the right to set up an additional competitive section for short documentaries running less than 30 minutes.
- d) The official entry form is enclosed in these regulations and available on the website www.molisecinema.it. The entry form must be duly filled in and mailed not later than the 14th of June 2010 (date as postmark), together with a DVD copy and a photo still of the film. The entry form can be downloaded from the website of the Festival: www.molisecinema.it or filled on-line. Applicants can submit their film through the on-line entry form available on the website of the Festival. However, the on-line entries are not complete or considered valid, until the receipt of the DVD copy of the film. The information contained in the entry form will be included in the Festival’s catalogue and other publications related to the Festival. The film-makers presenting non-Italian language films must send a DVD copy of the film with italian or english subtitles or a dialogue list in italian (if possibile), english or french.

- e) Authors of the selected films will be requested to send, as soon as possible, at least 3 color photos, minimum size13x18 cm. if hard copy or .jpeg/.tif files with a resolution of 300 dpi if in digital format. The photos will be used for promotional purposes and published in the catalogue. The publishing is understood to be authorized and free of charge. Authors will be requested to send a 35mm/16mm film or master Betacam copy of the the selected works.
- Deadlines
- Entry form and DVD copies: 14th of June 2010. 14 giugno 2010.
- Screeenings
- a) The programme and the screening schedule are the exclusive resposibility of the Board of directors of MoliseCinema.
- b) The films in a language other than italian will be screened in their original version or subtitled.
- c) The Board of directors of MoliseCinema will be in charge of publishing a catalogue of the Festival and informational booklets on the works selected for screening.
- d) The DVD copy of the films screened at MoliseCinema will not be returned.The director, or whoever holds the rights, agree to leave the copy in the archives of MoliseCinema in order to be filed and made available for study and for screening in other festivals. The archives will be kept in a dedicated storage unit.
- General Rules
- a) MoliseCinema is free, there is no entry fee.
- b) Works rejected in the previous editions of the Festival will not be accepted.
- c) The shipping costs of the DVDs sent for the pre-selection must be paid by the sender. The entry materials of the rejected works will not be returned.
- d) The delivery costs of the films selected for screening at MoliseCinema must be paid by the sender. The Festival will cover the cost of the return shipping .
- e) The screening copies of the selected films from non-EU-member countries must be sent by courier service and carry the declaration “No commercial value. Cultural purposes only"
- f) Submission of an entry to MoliseCinema implies recognition and acceptance without reservation of these regulations. Films accepted, already confirmed for screening and included in the program cannot be withdrawn from the Festival.
- g) The Board of directors of MoliseCinema will decide on any cases of doubt which have not been mentioned in these regulations. Disputes or discrepancies regarding the meaning of any of the above regulations lie within the jurisdiction of the Foro di Campobasso, the italian text of these regulations will be the only valid version.
